Colorful birthday plate is a simple birthday craft and is not too time consuming as well. These birthday plates make an interesting souvenir and can be made for mom, dad, kids and friends. In fact, you can even use this craft idea to make a special gift for your teacher on Teacher’s Day. Since, it takes a day or two to dry, make sure to plan this gift a few days before the occasion.
Supplies Required
- Plain white or clear glass plate
- Clear gloss glaze to be used for enameling
- Glass or ceramic paints
- A tube of black fabric paint
- Marker
- Paint brush
Instructions
Step 1: Trace any desired cut out pattern on the back of the plate (if it is made of clear glass) or on it (if it is plain white). You can use the design of a birthday cake or a clown for kids, a landscape or portrait if it is for your mom or dad, depending on your skills.
Step 2: Use a black fabric paint (tube) to outline your design on the face of the plate. This will give an embossed effect to your design. Let this color dry completely.
Step 3: Now, use glass or ceramic paints of your choice and color the design with a paint brush. Bubbles may form on the surface while using glass paints, use a pin to prick these as and when they form. Try to get a smooth finish. And let these paints dry for 2 or 3 hours.
Step 4: Once the paint is dry, brush the clear gloss glaze on the painted design to seal the paint. This will give your painting a smooth and shiny finish. Leave this plate to air dry for 12 to 24 hours.
A beautiful and colorful birthday plate is ready to be presented. Add a metal or wooden stand on which this plate can stand or get a hook pasted on the plate’s back so it can be used as a wall hanging.
