Bookmarks craft is an excellent art idea for children. It is not just a creative activity but also makes an attractive gift for your friends, teachers and relations who are avid readers. A beautiful bookmark can be made from things easily found in our homes. It may need no or very few supplies from the market.

Here are some easy bookmark craft ideas that you can make from things lying waste at your house.

Artwork Bookmarks

If you have an artwork that is wasting in your attic and you are willing to cut it up then this craft idea will surely appeal to you. Just mark a bookmark size rectangle at the back of the painting (1 1\2” x 5” is a good size). Cut this rectangle very carefully. Now take some clear contact paper and cut 2 rectangular pieces 1\2” wider and longer than the bookmark. Remove the backing from the pieces one at a time and sandwich the bookmark between them. The bookmark should be placed in the centre of the contact paper. Trim the edges carefully if they are uneven.

Greeting Card Bookmarks

If you are an environment conservationist, you’ll love this idea. Cut the picture on the front of a greeting card that you’ve received into a bookmark size rectangular piece (5”x1 1\2”). Take a thin cardboard and cut it in a 2”x8” rectangle. Now paste the greeting card picture on the top of this cardboard with some white glue. Let it dry. You can write some personal message on the bottom strip of the cardboard if you wish. To make it more durable you can cover it with clear contact paper or get it laminated.

Ribbon and Felt Bookmarks

Scraps of felt and ribbon lying at home can also make a pretty bookmark especially if you wish to present it to your teacher, mom or granny. Cut the felt into a bookmark sized rectangle. Cut a length of ribbon that extends 5 cm beyond the end of the felt and stick it on the felt with some glue. While the glue dries cut a heart shaped piece of matching or contrasting felt and cover the top of the ribbon. You can adorn the top portion of the bookmark with some sequins, buttons etc if you desire.
