Beaded Lampshade

Making a beaded lampshade can be an exciting exercise especially if you have an old and damaged fabric lampshade lying at your home. You can also make this lampshade by purchasing a wire frame of a lampshade from the market. But salvaging an existing lampshade will save you some money.

Things you need to make a beaded lampshade

  • Fabric lamp shade
  • Round glass beads
  • Floral wire or 20 gauge wire
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire clippers

Instructions to beaded lampshade

Step 1: Remove all the fabric and other material wrapped on to the lampshade.

Step 2: Measure the distance between the top and the bottom wires of the shade, add on about 3 inches to it that is the length of one piece of wire that you need. Cut a bunch of such wires enough to fill the entire lampshade.

Step 3: Take the first piece of wire and bend the one end up (about one inch up the wire). Thread one glass bead inside and wrap the wire end around it to keep it from falling. Now start threading the wire with beads.

Step4: Thread the remaining wires in a similar fashion. You can use two or more glass bead colors and thread them in different patterns. For instance, to have a checkered pattern use two colors of glass beads on one wire. Start with the opposite color on every new wire.

Step 5: After you have beaded enough wires to fill your lampshade, start attaching them on the frame. First wrap the extra wire in the top wire of the lamp with needle nose pliers, pull the string down and repeat the process on the bottom wire lamp frame.

Step 6: Continue this process all the way around the lampshade. Place the strings of beads directly next to each other without leaving a space between them. This will prevent the glare of bulb from falling into your eyes. You can also glue some handmade parchment paper on the inside of the lamp to reduce this glare.

With this your beaded lampshade is ready to adorn your living, drawing or bed room.Read about following Beading Crafts :
