Baby Fleece Blanket

When it comes to baby gift ideas for baby shower or birthday parties, baby fleece blankets win hands down. These are soft and warm, so the little one can snuggle into them and feel comfortable. They can be made in attractive and bright colors and can be personalized according to requirement.

Making fleece blankets is a simple craft and it doesn’t require any special skills or an expertise in sewing and needlework. If you have an aptitude for crafts and a creative bent of mind, you can even start a home based enterprise for making personalized baby fleece blankets.

Method

You will need micro fleece fabric in contrasting colors for this craft. Make sure to decide on the size of the blanket and keep margin for shrinkage before purchasing fleece. A 48” wide piece will make a decent size throw blanket.

You can adorn this blanket with appliqué work, embroidery, smocking or even fabric paint. Attach the decorations on one layer before you sew them together so that the second layer hides the thread knots and embroidery backings. Keep away from iron-on stickers as they will not stick well on fleece fabric and will come-off after a few washes, spoiling the look of your blanket.

If you plan to gift a baby fleece blanket on some special occasion like Baptisms, Christening ceremony, baby shower or 1 st birthday party, then personalize the blanket by embroidering or painting a special message on it. The message can be the baby’s name, birth details, date of the occasion, special poem or some other personal message.

Give a finishing touch to the edges of the blanket by cutting them into fringes or crocheting around the blanket edge in matching or contrasting yarn. If you have used appliqué work on the blanket, then create a two inch flange border from the edge by using zigzag or over lock stitch. Also read about following :
