Nowadays, most of the cabinets are installed by either cabinet suppliers or cabinet makers. But sometimes, due to unavoidable circumstances, this job falls upon you. Hence, everyone should be well prepared to handle such a situation. Installing cabinets is not a tough task.
The first step in installing cabinet is to make sure that the cabinet will not obstruct any electrical or plumbing utility lines. The wall on which the cabinet is to be installed should be thoroughly cleaned and painted. The paint should be allowed to dry properly. Then reference lines should be drawn on the walls to indicate the top and bottom of the cabinet. These lines can be drawn by using a level and a pencil. The bottom line should be 3 inches above the floor. From this line, the floor’s highest point should be found and marked.
Mark the points where drilling is to be done and then join the line. Vertical measurement should be done for a row and then it should be halved and marked. Similarly, horizontal measurement needs to be done for a column and then it should be halved and marked. This should be repeated for accurate measurement. One centre point has to be spotted for each drawer. It doesn’t matter whether the hardware is single screw type or double screw type. For cabinet doors, a lower corner point has to be spotted. All the points should be covered with masking tape. This will enable drilling accuracy and won’t spoil the cabinet face. Measurements should always be taken twice to lessen the chances of error as one wrong spot would ruin your expensive cabinet.
First the corner wall cabinet needs to be installed. Two screws can be used to fit this cabinet. But these screws should be fixed tightly. Next the adjacent cabinets need to be installed. For faceframe cabinets pilot holes are required while for frameless ones bolt holes need to be drilled. When all the cabinets are ready, install them to the wall according to the marks made.
