Who said that dorm rooms can't be stylish and trendy? Read these simple suggestions and in a short period of time, your dorm will go from geek to chic.
There are many popular ways people decorate houses and apartments, fortunately those styles can be brought to dorms, as well. Sure, there may not be the space you would wish to have and you may have to scale back on some details, but you can still make the most of your dorm and turn it into something quite unique and impressive. First, you should consider how much of a budget you'll be working with? You could certainly go all out and buy fancy furniture and decorations, but if you're like most college students, you are probably working with a smaller, more limited budget. Luckily, there are still many affordable items you can find for you dorm, without having to lose any style.
For example, let's say you want to give your dorm a "shabby chic" style, this can be done quite easily, and with not much expense. The "shabby chic" style is designed to give a comfortable, yet lived in feeling. Paint chips, vintage linens, floral fabrics on furniture, and over stuffed sofas/loveseats are all part of the look. You can simply go to a thrift store, to find many of the items to design your dorm with this style, since the idea is to find older accessories. Of course you want them to be in quality condition, so just do some shopping around and look for the best deals. Try to choose all white items, so they all coordinate together, color-wise. Typically, dorm walls are already painted white, so this makes the look even easier to achieve. However, if your dorm walls aren't white, you definately don't want to break any rules and paint them yourself. If the "shabby chic" style isn't right for you, there are still plently of other styles you can pull off successfully in a dorm room. Some other examples, could be a island/tropical look, or an Asian/Japanese look. A store such as Pier 1, would be a great place to shop for imported items, such as the ones you would probably need for those styles. However, if your budget is limited, you still might be able to find what you need at your favorite department store, or possibly thrift store.
Hopefully these ideas will help you in creating a chic dorm room.
