It is found in the area that is about 5000 feet in height. It is found in indo Gangetic planes that extend up to the Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal and Bhutan. It needs the temperate climatic conditions to propagate and is seen in central part of North American region.

Morphology |
| |
It is about 25 to 30 feet high tree. Bark is of reddish brown in color. The branches are long and possess thorns on them. Leaves are 2 to 6 ½ inch in length and are ovate in shape. Leaves are thin at the end and have hairs on the lower end. These turns black on drying and have a peculiar smell when it is crushed. Flowers are whitish green in color and are hairy to touch. Fruit is circular, purple to blackish in color whose front part is compressed and having 2 to 5 inch in diameter. The tree flowers in early summers and fruits in summers.
