It is found in tropical and temperate area and is very commonly seen all over. It is found every where in India. It is also found in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Burma, Nepal and southern parts of Asia.

Morphology |
| |
It is an aromatics plant that achieves a height of about 2 to 4 feet. It attains this height in rainy season. Leaves are about 6 to 12 inch in length that has a leathery appearance. Flowers are of yellow color and are of ½ to ¾ inch in diameter. It has a 4 to 5 inch long pod that is flattened. It is of dark brown color and is slightly curved upwards at the edges. It contains about 10 to 30 seeds. These seeds are olive brown and flattened at the both ends. It flowers in autumn season and fruits in winter.

It acts as analgesic and thus helps in minimizing the pain in the body. It is also effective in convulsions. It normalizes the digestion and rectifies the secretions in the body. It also acts as mild laxative. It tones up the respiratory tract. It is also effective in pyrexia.

- Rasa (taste) – tickt (bitter), madhur (sweet)
