Morphology

 

A very large climbing shrub with woody, white, tomentose stems; leaves simple, large, ovate, acute, base cordate, glabrous above, white tomentose beneath; flowers large, purple, silky- pubescent without in long-peduncled cymes, corolla tubular- infundibuliform; fruits dry, globosely, apiculate.)

Pharmacology

 

It is vata and kapha suppressant. It helps in healing of wounds and increases blood circulation to the effective part. It strengthens the nervous system and promotes memory. It is anti inflammatory in action and is cardiac supporter. It helps in digestion. It is also helpful in throat related problems. It increases sperms count and decreases the inflammation in the uterus. It is also helpful in resolving urine related problems and is also effective in diabetes. It also strengthens the body.

According to ayurveda it contains

  • Gunna (properties) - laghu (light) and ruksh (dry) and tikshan (sharp)
  • Rasa (taste) – tickta (bitter) and katu (pungent)
  • Virya (potency) – ushan (hot)

Uses

 

The roots are acrid, bitter, astringent, and sweet. It is also Emollient, thermogenic, roborant, appetizer, digestive, carminative, aperients, cardio tonic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, diuretic, aphrodisiac, rejuvenating, intellect promoting, brain tonic, nervine tonic and tonic. They are useful in vitiated conditions of kapha and vata, emaciation, wounds, ulcers, anorexia, dyspepsia, flatulence, colic, constipation, cardiac debility, inflammations, cough, bronchitis, strangury, seminal weakness, nervous weakness, cerebral disorders, synovitis, hemorrhoids, obesity, hoarseness, syphilis, anemia, diabetes, tuberculosis, arthritis, ascites, leucorrhoea and general debility.
