Morphology |

A much branched prostrate herb, branches often purplish, frequently rooting at the lower nodes; leaves simple, opposite, somewhat fleshy, lanceolate, oblanceolate or linear-oblong, obtuse or subacute, sometimes obscurely denticulate, glabrous, shortly petiolate; flowers small, white, in axillary clusters; fruits compressed obcordate utricles, seeds suborbicular.

Stems and leaves useful in eye trouble (Bull Bot Soc Bengal, 1968, 22, 69). In Ghana, herb decoction is used in gonorrhea. Plant is used as enema for abdominal pains in pregnant women. With other ingredients herb used as abortive. Poultice of shoot used in swelling. Decoction is taken with little salt drunk to check vomiting of blood. Shoot with other ingredients used to restore virility. Poultice used for boils. Plant used for hazy vision, night blindness, malaria, post-natal complaints, prolapsus ano, fistula ani, diar, dysen, pucrpeal fever, bite of rabid jackol or dog and bone fracture
