Malaria

The parasite of malaria is considered is considered to be the world’s biggest killers. If a person travels to a place where one might gets infected with malaria then the most effective thing is to take some preventive measures and thus save other people.

One should be aware of the symptoms which are responsible for spreading malaria. Malaria is an infection which is caused due to the presence of parasite called protozoa in the red blood cells. There are four different types of species of the parasite and each one of them has an effect which is slightly different from the other.

Malaria Causes

The protozoa which are responsible for the spreading of malaria is carried by a mosquito generally known as Anopheles. If the mosquito bites a person who is already infected with malaria then the parasite gets into the mosquito and is thus passed on to another person.

This is how malaria is spread from one person to another. The disease is more prevalent in those places which fall in the tropical areas. People staying in the U.K. will definitely try to avoid going to places where they have full chances of falling prey to malaria. Malaria is really dreadful disease particularly in those where the medical facilities have not been properly developed.

If the diagnosis is done properly then the disease is not dreadful as some think it to be Sometimes the diagnosis is not being properly and thus the disease takes a drastic turn. Sometimes the person gets infected for malaria but the virus can stay inside the body of the traveler for more than 6 months.

Many fall prey to malaria much after getting infected with the virus. The cerebral malaria is one type of malaria which sometimes proves to be very fatal. It proves fatal because it is diagnosed very late. A person who has visited the tropical country should not be confident about not contracting the disease.

Malaria Prevention

It is not necessary that if a person does not show any symptom of malaria then the person will not get infected. People who have once lived in the tropical countries too can fall prey to the disease.

One should not be too confident of not contracting malaria. Cerebral malaria is one of the severest form of malaria and might prove to be fatal it not treated properly. One of the most effective ways of preventing malaria is to avoid getting bitten by the mosquitoes. That can be done by using mosquito repellents, by covering our hand and legs properly and by not allowing the mosquito to enter our houses.

Before traveling to any tropical country one can make proper enquiry as whether the place is infested with mosquito or not. Doctors prescribe some drugs which to a certain extent helps in preventing malaria.

But these medicines do not give 100% guarantee. The doctors sometimes find it difficult to treat malaria as some of the recommended medicines have very little effect on the parasite. Some medicines are controversial as they have certain side-effects. Even if they do not guard fully against malaria still the medicines should not be stopped without the advice of the doctor.

Malaria Treatment

Even after taking the medicines if the symptoms do appear again and again the doctor should be consulted with out fail. If the person has traveled to any place which is infested with malaria then the doctor should be notified immediately. Doctors are doing research work in this field and it is being hoped that within the next 15 years a vaccine for malaria will be developed.

In the meantime progress has been made in the field of medicines. People must understand the use of the drugs and how it helps in preventing malaria. People who have visited the places where the disease is more prevalent should continue taking the medicines even after returning back. The dose should be completed as per the instructions of the doctors.
