Gingivitis

Gingivitis refers to the inflammation that affects the gums. Poor hygiene leads to the occurrence if the disease. Plaques are built on the gums which lead to acute irritation. Gums tend to swell and they become red in color.

The gums tend to bleed when the teeth are being brushed. The gums become very tender and are prone to bleeding. The dentist should be contacted immediately otherwise it might lead to the formation of the abscess as well as infection. It might also lead to loss of teeth. The patient should not take the disease very lightly.

Cause Gingivitis

One of the main causes of gingivitis is poor dental hygiene. Apart from this there are various other reasons that lead to the development of the disease. Constant smoking and poor nutrition is also the source of the disease. Any injury of the gum also might lead to gingivitis. Gum infection also occurs during pregnancy.

There are certain drugs that lead to the development of the disease. Misaligned teeth also lead to gingivitis. Bacterial plaques are also the reason for the infection of the gums. The plaques tend to take shape between the small gaps that are present between the gum and the teeth.

These plaques are microscopic but bacteria tend to develop on them. These bacteria produce some sort of toxins which leads to the inflammation of the gums. These inflammations can damage the root of the teeth and the bone that is present around gets affected.

Regular cleanings by dentist can help in preventing the condition. If the plaques are removed regularly the gums are prevented from getting inflamed and thus gingivitis can be prevented to a certain extent. It is therefore advisable to have the teeth cleaned by a dentist at a regular interval.

In order to avoid this condition, good oral hygiene should be maintained. The dentist should be visited regularly and one should try to abstain from smoking. Stress should be kept under control.

Gingivitis Treatment

The main aim of the treatment is to reduce the inflammation of the gum. This involves the cleaning of the teeth as well as the gums through some dentist. One should understand the importance of oral hygiene. Any dental problems should be immediately referred to the dentist. None of the medical problems should be taken lightly.

Gingivitis refers to the inflammation of the gums that are present around the teeth. These inflammations arise due to the presence of bacteria. To prevent the inflammation oral hygiene is absolutely necessary. Removing of the plaque is not a very painful process and the inflammation of the gums is reduced within a few weeks of the treatment. Dentists also suggest gargling with brine water or any other anti-bacterial mouthwash.

Bacterial plaque tends to accumulate if the teeth are not properly cleaned through regular brushing. The calcium and other substances that are present in the saliva turns into hard substance and if not cleaned properly encourage the growth of bacteria which in turn irritates the gums

As the plaque becomes thick bacteria starts to flourish and thus they release more toxins which aggravate the gingivitis. If the teeth are cleaned using vigorous strokes it also leads to the inflammation of the gums. Pregnancy and uncontrolled diabetes increases the risk of gingivitis. Sometimes gums get inflamed due to some hormonal changes.

If a healthy and normal person suffers from gingivitis it is a signal about some underlying disease. But mainly a healthy person suffers from this disease due to improper brushing techniques.

Proper oral hygiene should be maintained so that the effect of the disease is lessened. The dentist should be visited regularly and one should try to abstain from smoking. Stress should be kept under control. These inflammations can damage the root of the teeth and the bone that is present around gets affected.
