Many people suffer from appendicitisinflammation and infact it is one of the commonest surgeries which iscarried out in present times. Basically appendicities is nothing but an inflammation that occurs on the appendix. An appendix is a small organ that leads off the bowel. Children suffer more from appendicitis. Though the adults also suffer but it is more common among the children.

This malady is also common among animals and in their case an appendicities inflammation may be fatal. This is because the humans can easily live without an appendix but the animals will find it difficult to live without one as it helps in their digestion process. For the animal it is the most important body organ which is associated with the process of digestion; hence any malfunctioning of the organ may result in disease as well as death.

Causes of Appendicitis

There are no definite causes as why a person suffers from appendicitis. It can be caused by some infection or by some blockage that occurs near the appendix. Some bacteria which are generally found in the gut enter the appendix through its wall. It reduces the defensive power of the body and thus infection and inflammation occurs near the appendix. All these lead to appendicitis.

Appendicitis Symptoms

The onset of the inflammation of appendicitis is sudden in most cases. The person who suffers from appendicitis gets a pain in the centre part of the abdomen. The pain occurs and recedes at short intervals. Slowly the pain shifts towards the lower outside part of the right abdomen and becomes unbearable.

The patient might experience loss of appetite and either suffers from constipation or diarrhea. The patient might suffer from fever and lie still due to acute pain. Doctors consider the case as appendicitis when the pain is severe and persistent. In such case immediate medical attention is needed.

When a person suffers from appendicitis he/she is operated upon and the appendix is removed. Sometimes an ordinary acute pain is mistaken as appendicitis. It is often confused with food poisoning and urinary infections. In some cases the doctors would realize their mistake only after operating upon the appendix.

Treatment of Appendicitis

Immediate medical attention should be taken whenever the child suffers from severe pain. The child should not be allowed to drink or eat anything. In most cases

urgent surgery is performed so that the appendixdoes not burst out. It is advisable to have the appendix removed before it bursts because the infectious pus present inside the organ might get spilled over the entire portion of the abdomen. This can lead to long term damage of the abdomen. Sometimes it also leads to infertility in women.

An appendicitis pain should never be neglected and the doctor should be consulted immediately. In majority cases appendix is removed before it bursts. The doctors suggest painkillers for immediate recovery. Intravenous fluids are also given to help the patient. Recovery after the operation takes only few days and in the case of children it is even quicker. Doctors should be consulted in case of any complication

. The removal of the appendix is the only remedy of getting relieved from the disease. It should not be left untreated. It is one of the most common case of abdomen pain in the world.

The appendicitis inflammation is also diagnosed through CT scan. But this method is restricted only for the adults. It should not be done on pregnant women and children mainly because of exposure to radiation. The CT scan results are more accurate. It also helps in the early detection of appendicitis.
