Acne is a common problem faced both by men and women. It is a problem of the skin. Acne results in the development of inflamed spots. Generally the face and the neck of a person get affected by acne. However, acne may develop in other parts of the body like back, shoulder, etc. Acnes that develop on a person’s back are commonly known as backne or bacne. Acne vulgaris is the most common type of acne. This kind of acne is generally seen among the teenagers.

Acne Causes

There are thousands of small hair follicles on the skin. Each of these hair follicles is provided with sebaceous gland. All through the day these glands secret sebum which is an oily substance. The skin’s sebaceous glands react with testosterone the male hormone and produce more sebum. Acne is however formed when the hair follicles get blocked. The dead cells of the skin along with the over produced sebum causes the blockage of the hair follicles. Acne generally occurs prior to exams and in most cases they are caused due to stress. It may also happen during the beginning of a new relation. In this case also stress is the major factor that can cause acne. Acne also occurs in girls before they start menstruation. It may also happen during pregnancy. Some medicines and cosmetics can also cause acnes.

Symptoms of Acne

The acne is generally characterized by the appearance of the blackhead. These blackheads are caused because of the pigment of the skin and not dirt. Whitehead is also a feature of acne. The whiteheads inflame as the bacteria and oil that gets collected in the skin are not able to escape. The rupture of the hair follicle that is blocked can result in the occurrence of more whiteheads. The occurrence of more inflammation can result in the formation of cysts and nodules. These when disappears leaves scars on the skin. Acne generally appears on the face. However, it can occur in other parts of the body like neck, chest, groin, behind the ears, etc.

Treatment of Acne

There are different ways of treating acne. The main aim of treating acne is to prevent the skin from getting scarred. In order to treat acne, a person should be free of psychological stress. However, the treatment depends on the acne’s severity. Acne can be treated by combining the different procedures of treatments. One such treatment involves the use of creams containing Benzoyl peroxide. These are of great help in treating both mild and moderate acne problems. These creams are widely available in the market. In order to get good result, these creams should be rubbed on acne affected area twice everyday.

 Diet Habits to Prevent Acne

A person in order to avoid acne should keep a check on the diet. Researches have shown that acne problems have a relation with the consumption of milk. People consuming skimmed milk, cottage cheese, sherbet, cream cheese are more prone to acne problems. Again researches have shown that consumption of seafood tends to worsen the prevailing acne problems. This is because seafood contains iodine which is responsible for worsening acne problems. Researches have also shown that foods that are rich in carbohydrate also accelerates acne problem. Besides, it has been seen that people prone to acne have low level of both vitamin E and A.

Acne is a problem that almost all of us face during the course of our life. By adopting a healthy lifestyle we can easily fight this menace.
