Make a patch of ground ready by digging it over with compost & soil. Create some raised rows, like you would with potatoes. Place black polythene over the whole area, so that it follows the contours of the mounded up rows. Make the row at least 6 inches high, about a foot across, and the troughs about 6 inches deep, and about a foot wide. Cut holes throuhg the polythene big enough to plant your strawberry plants in the soil in the top or crest of the mounds, about 12 to 18 inches apart, the rows following the mounds, ie don't plant in the trough. Water them with the hose on light shower every couple of days unless it is hot then do it every day. It is a good idea to make a netting cover over the patch once they start to fruit as the birds will scoff them otherwise. I grown them in an area that gets sun about half the day & they do fine. A frost will make them taste better also.
