Lower back pain is becoming a common phenomenon in the present generation. Sedentary lifestyle, lack of any physical activity and spending hours sitting in front of the computer tighten our back muscles. Some stretching exercises for the back will not only reduce the back pain but also bring flexibility to the spine and help tone up your back muscles.
Some of these stretching exercises are given below:
Exercise 1
Toe touching is a good exercise to have a supple spine. Stand erect with your arms stretched upwards. Inhale and then while releasing your breath bend forward. Try to touch your toes without bending your knees. Stay in the position for a few seconds and then come back to the original position.
Exercise 2
Torso Twist. This exercise is done standing upright with hands resting on your hips. Now gently twist your upper body towards the right side, you can keep your knees slightly flexed. Stay in the position for five seconds and then revert to the starting position. Then rotate to the other side.
Exercise 3
Triangle posture. Stand upright with feet shoulder width apart. Bend sideways to the right, your right hand sliding down your thigh with your left arm stretched overhead. Return to the starting position and repeat for the left side.
Exercise 4
Cat Stretch. Go down on all fours. Inhale and pull your stomach towards the floor hollowing your back. Stay for a few seconds. Exhale and curl your back towards the ceiling. Stay for a while, relax and repeat it.
Exercise 5
Pelvic Tilt. Lie down on the floor facing the upwards. Bend your knees with your feet flat on the floor. Now tilt your pelvic so that the small of your back touches the floor. Keep your stomach muscles tight. Hold this position for a while and then return to the original position.
Practicing these stretching exercises for the back regularly will surely give you relief from backaches and help you perform your daily chores actively.
