Scientific research has proven that staying inactive is unsafe for a person no matter how old he\she is. We all need to exercise to keep fit and active. Exercising provides us the necessary strength and energy to carry on our day-to-day activities, it helps us stay disease-free, and it’s a great stress reliever, thus ensuring longevity of life.
Conventional Exercises
Exercising just 30 minutes a day regularly can help you achieve the above results. There are various forms of exercises and you can choose the one that you like the most. For instance cardio exercises like walking, running, swimming, aerobic dance, aerobics etc are great to lose weight and get into shape. Team sports like soccer, volleyball, hockey etc can be picked up early in life. Yoga is a great exercise to keep fit. It helps you free your mind and develop your concentration power.
Alternative Exercises to keep Fit
The daily household chores and a hectic work schedule may not allow you to hit the gym or take up any other physical activity. In that case you take up some regular activity as an alternative to exercising. For instance, if you are a housewife, activities like mopping, vacuuming and cleaning the floor are great for your upper arms, thighs and legs; just maintain a proper posture while doing these and they will keep your back strong. Similarly, reaching up the cupboard to get something can help you tone your stomach. How? Well, instead of a stool stretch yourself upwards on your toes and suck your stomach in to get the thing, it’ll get your abs in shape.
If you have children, make weekends your family playtime days. It is not just a fun filled physical activity but also a great way to bond with your family. Additionally, mowing the lawn, raking the leaves and washing your car also exercise your body.
If you are busy with your work life, try and substitute driving for walking or biking to your office. You can use public transport to reach office and walk down till your bus stop. This is also a good form of exercise.
