Born on 22 nd June 1960 in Lawrence , Kansas , Erin Brockovich grew up as the youngest child with her father- a disciplinarian and her Hero. After her Graduation in 1980, she moved to Newport Beach , California in search of work.
In April 1982, Erin Brockovich got married to Shawn Brown-a local housepainter, and gave birth to Mathew in 1983. Next came in their daughter, Katie. An early marriage and early motherhood lead to the round of panic attacks at an early age of 24, leading to divorce at the age of 26.
In 1987, Erin Brochovich, the then single Mother, got a job as a secretary at a local brokerage firm, where she met a stockbroker. In 1989, Erin remarried the stockbroker, only to give birth to Elizabeth , because she got divorced in 1990. She was single mother again and this time even tougher, as she had to raise three small kids with practically nothing in hand.
In 1991, Erin met with an accident and had to move to South California to file the accident case. Jim Vititoe of Masry&Vititoe handled her auto accident case. The settlement provided much less than what was expected. No other option left, Erin Brockovich joined the law firm, Masry&Vititoe, as a file clerk. Soon she was filing cases for this firm. It was at this time that she filed the case of Pacific Gas & Electric who wanted to buy family residence in Hinkley , California . Erin found that the case spelt more than revealed. She asked Ed Masry’s permission to investigate the case, further.
She discovered that Pacific Gas&Electric had allowed the leakage of a contaminant called Chromium6 into the well water of Hinkley , California for over 30 years. Several residents of this community were suffering from ailments ranging from chronic nosebleeds to cancer.
Her spirits and sex appeal gave her an access to places where others had been denied, and she built up the necessary evidences on the case. Erin ’s persistence finally paid off.
In 1993, 634 residents of Hinkley hired Maesry&Vititoe to sue PG&E. After nearly four years, the Hinkley case settled for $333 million- the largest direct-action lawsuit in US history.
On her sessions with chiropractor, Erin was introduced to an executive at Danny DeVito’s production house, who envisioned the movie version of Erin ’s life as ‘rocky’.
Julia Roberts signed in to portray Erin Brockovich and made Erin a Star, overnight.
