Holy land of Israel celebrates Easter very religiously. Israel is home to very important historic sites. Many important Christian rituals have roots in Jewish traditions. Easter celebrations are very significant for the world. Festival of Easter becomes more important because it coincides with Jewish festival of Passover which commemorates the exodus of Jews from captivity of Egypt . Pesach, the Hebrew word means Passover originally but it also means Easter .
Holy Land of Jerusalem in Israel is such devotees from all over the world come here to witness the Easter celebrations. There is an Easter sunrise service at Garden tomb in Jerusalem and pilgrims collect here from all over the world for this.
At the ancient church of Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem , Easter mass is held. Priests and monks in white robes gather around the tomb, which believed to be the place from where Jesus got resurrection. On the Easter Sunday, church leader go inside the tomb of Jesus and doors are closed. Then all the lights of town are put off. After some time Priest come out with blazing torch and church bells ring. It is believed that torch miraculously lit inside the tomb. Then all the people present in the church light their candles with holy torch. These monks and priests chant liturgy and fragrant incense is lit over the tomb.
Orthodox Jews do not believe Jesus Christ to be the Messiah sent by the God and hence they do not celebrate Easter as the celebration for resurrection of Jesus Christ. Orthodox Jews observe this day as Passover. In the mainland Israel, Messianic Christians celebrate this day as Easter Day as the rest of the world. Many processions are held in Israel for the occasion of Easter. In these processions, people walk in groups on the route on which Jesus Christ took journey to Golgotha. This route is known as the Twelve Stations of The Cross.
