Christmas
Christmas is such Christian festival which is celebrated with great devotion along with full merriment. There are no rituals associated with it; people of all religions, caste and creed enjoy it. Christmas is one such festival which celebrated globally on 25 th December. People celebrate it with great fervor and start preparing for it one month before the actual festival day. Markets, shops and homes are decorated with artificial snow, Christmas trees and bright lights.
Significance of Christmas:
Christmas is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. This festival spreads the message of love, brotherhood and tolerance in humankind. According to Roman calendar, it is believed that, birth of Jesus Christ occurred on 25 th December in 336 A. D. India is a land where all religions coexist in harmony. Christianity spread in entire nation due to long period of European rule. Teachings of Christianity influenced many people of different sects and they got converted into Christians. Christmas and other Christian festivals are the very part of Indian culture.
Christmas Decorations:
Few days before Christmas, homes and streets get decorated with many colorful decorations, Christmas trees, lights, stars, balls and lot more. People go for seriously big shopping at this point of time. Artificial snow is decorated on the shops if there is no natural snow.
Christmas Carols:
Christmas carols can be heard everywhere at time of Christmas. These are devotional songs with light music in the worship of Jesus.
Christmas Cards
Christmas cards go in huge circulation at the occasion of Christmas. People send Christmas cards to their friends and relatives to wish them a happy Christmas. In traditional Christmas cards, pictures of Baby Jesus and Mary are printed. Nowadays, you can find cards with any kind of picture like winters, snow, cartoons, Christmas tree, stars and lot more things.
Santa Claus
Santa Claus is the Father Christmas which is the human face to the Christmas. Santa Claus is the old man with long white beard who wears a long red coat and holds a bag full of toys and sweets. This is an imaginary man whom children believe to be real. Santa Claus is derived from the name of St. Nicholas who was called Father Christmas.
