The kitchen is given great importance by Feng Shui because to the Chinese food represents wealth. If the food is cooked in a kitchen which has good Feng Shui then all those who eat it will benefit from the good luck.

The Chinese place great importance on where the kitchen is situated in the home. Ideally the kitchen should be in the south or southeast of the house. Try to place your kitchen in the inner half of your home. Also try to avoid the kitchen being near the front door.

If the kitchen is light and airy with minimal clutter it is good. Try to ensure that your kitchen has at least one window in it. A kitchen which is windowless is bad Feng Shui. The tiles in the kitchen should not be too shiny or have a mirror like reflective surface as mirrors bring bad luck in kitchens.

As the kitchen is the one room which is balancing two opposing elements of fire and water, the placement of objects in the kitchen is of vital importance. Some of the basic placement tips for good kitchen Feng Shui are not placing the stove next to the sink or the refrigerator, as this brings the opposing elements of fire and water together. If in your current kitchen you do not have any option then try to place a barrier like a small wooden shelf in between.

Water pipes should not be placed under the area where the stove is placed. Try to position the stove in such a way that the back of the person cooking should not be towards the door. Try to keep the stove in good functioning order and always clean it after use.

Try not to place the stove under a window. This way all the energy will leave the house too quickly. The stove should not be directly in front of the kitchen door either. If there are any overhead exposed beams in the kitchen then make sure that the stove is not placed under it.

Tiles are very good for a kitchen floor as they give the home the ‘grounding’ that it needs. Wooden or carpeted floors are not only bad Feng Shui but impractical as well. Remember if your kitchen Feng Shui is good your family will always be well fed and therefore well off
