Your Top 5 Exercise Excuses-Busted
There are many reasons why fitness routines fall apart. Maybe you got busy at work, had a baby, hurt your ankle, your instructor left and you haven’t found another class. So, here are some ideas to get you back on track.
Excuse No 1: I am bored ….
• Train for a marathon. Put the race in your diary and work out a training schedule. Sign up for the race to increase your motivation.
• Take some lessons in a sport you play and then sign up for a competition. The competitive component will bring a new element to your activity.
• Try something new to make your workouts more interesting. Take a class or try something you haven’t done before.
• Work out with a friend – it’s always more fun with company
Excuse No 2: I am too busy….
• Walk to work or go for a fast walk in your lunchhour
• Walk the kids to school
• Work out early in the morning, before work and school
• Take a mid afternoon break from work and take a walk
Excuse No 3: I had an injury ….
• Change your training to focus on a different part of your body
• Try a light exercise alternative for a while
• Exercise with a friend for support and assistance if needed
• Be patient, take it easy and allow the injury to heal properly
Excuse No 4: I have had a baby ….
• Go for walks and push the pram; start a ‘mothers’ with prams’ walking group in your area.
• Exercise on home gym equipment while the baby is asleep
• Get a yoga or pilates DVD, put it on when baby is asleep and follow the class
• Buy a rope and skip for 10 minutes a day
Excuse No 5: I am a beginner and don’t know what to do ….
• Hire a personal trainer to get you started
• Take a trial membership at a gym (often free) and ask for help
• Find a friend to exercise with
Whatever excuse you have for not exercising, it is just that – an excuse. You know that exercise is a necessary part of living a healthy, happy life and it makes you look and feel great. So stop making excuses and find a way around the challenge you are facing.
