Your Fast Food Calorie Counter
Every one of us knows that fast food is not healthy. In fact, that is why we call fast food junk food. However, the truth does not end there. We also have our own favorite fast food places, be it Pizza Hut or McDonald’s.
Here is where I will attach a figure to the “bad” food, which will make it easier for you to know the damage that you are allowing such foods to cause your health.
Some Facts
Our society is growing at a very fast pace and our lifestyle is at an all time fast pace. The US alone boasts of 300,000 different fast food places. Our present lifestyle makes us opt for the quick and cheap, making most Americans eat three burgers in a week.
Road traffic is increasing with more people on roads now. So it is not a surprise that 81% Americans have their share of junk food while driving.
Now, if you are one of those people who wonder why obesity has struck our society so hard, then this fact would clear it up for you. A single serving of some fast food meals contains 1200 calories, which would be almost half of the recommended daily amount!!
Some Things To Remember
Now that you have gotten a good picture of the junk in junk food, there are a few things that you need to remember.
When choosing between junk food, always choose the grilled option over the fried or deep-fried. Even deep fried fish is not healthy. Fries also contain a lot of fat, even if they are crispy. In fact, thin fries absorb more oil than thicker ones.
It is not a good thing to avoid breakfast. But it certainly is a good thing to avoid breakfast in fast food outlets because there the breakfasts seem to contain the most fats and calories. An example would be a McDonald’s Spanish Omelet Bagel, which contains 690 calories, while a Big Mac contains around 550. That would be a whopping 40 calories more.
Dairy products should be avoided always.
Skin on chicken should be a strict no-no because most of the fat of the chicken is in the skin.
Water is a healthier option to soda or any soft drinks.
All fast food chains have similar food items on their menu lists. However, their calorie counts vary. You can check on the examples in the tables above.
Eat To Live Or Live To Eat
After having a look at all these facts and figures, it must be clear to you how much “bad” is the junk food we so unwittingly savor. The guilt alone should do the work for some of you. Nevertheless, remember now that you can make an informed choice about what you eat, make a healthy choice.
