Why don’t People Exercise?
April 6, 2009
Many people commonly voice the following excuses for not exercising.
1. I hardly have any time for exercising since I am busy.
2. I keep myself fit by playing tennis/ golf on Sundays.
3. In order to enjoy the fruits of exercising I not only have to spend a lot of time exercising but also wait for a long time. I don’t know whether it is worth the effort.
4. My heart will get strained if I exercise wrongly.
Are you one of those who find yourself in such a predicament? These are only excuses.
Some of the solutions for this situation are as follows.
1. Time is something that you should find for yourself. This requires drive, discipline, determination and optimum use of time available. Get up 30 minutes earlier than normal time. Buy vegetables and fruits from the departmental stores once a week. Change over to bread made with whole-wheat. In addition to finding time you must also choose better food.
2. You will be forced to find time later if you are unable to find time now. Nowadays the doctors recommend exercising as a part of their treatment.
Exercising has a number of benefits. If you practice a moderate session of exercise in the evening you will get deep sleep that is rejuvenating, thereby making you get up with energy in the morning. People who are physically fit are full of self-confidence, self discipline and can control life better.
3. Playing games once a week is more for recreation than for physical fitness.
4. People are of the view that by stopping exercise, you tend to lose the benefits and you will become fat; this is not true. There is no direct connection between fat and muscle tissues; they are two different entities and cannot change one another. If you discontinue your exercising you will certainly lose certain muscle mass. Overeating and non-exercising will result in the body gaining fat.
5. If you exercise with low intensity it is as good as not doing any exercise. Exercising moderately improves your heart condition. People with cardiac problems should consult their doctor for his recommendation of a physiotherapist or trainer under whose supervision you could practice these exercises.
