Why Aerobics is a Necessity
April 4, 2009
It used to be that exercise was a necessary evil. Even though we knew that exercising was beneficial, we just couldn’t seem to get motivated. We lacked motivation primarily because the exercises were so boring. We only had a choice or walking or running on a treadmill, riding a bike or lifting weights.
Because the importance of exercise became more popularized, fitness facilities began to pop up everywhere. The facilities tried to make exercising more enjoyable by adding television to keep you busy or hiring personal trainers to motivate its members.
Today, people who are bored with their exercise routines can try a new form of exercise that will keep them moving and entertained. It’s called dance aerobics.
Aerobics gained popularity in the 1980’s. Since then it has evolved. Aerobics started out as a fitness routine that incorporated dance movements that were often hard to follow.
Also, these movements tended to flow into one another and did not force the person to use their muscles to perform the moves. Therefore, the physical benefits were limited.
Now, dance aerobics combines dance movements that are more athletic. Because of this, aerobics has become more popular and enjoyable. Even professional athletes are taking aerobic classes.
Aerobics’ popularity has grown for many reasons. One reason is the use of music during the routine. The music that is chosen is upbeat and fast moving. This is reason enough to motivate someone and keep them coming back to class.
Aerobics can take many forms. There is low impact aerobics, high impact aerobics and classes that combine the two. Low impact aerobics keeps the body moving while limiting the amount of stress the activities cause on the legs and feet.
This form of aerobics tends to keep the feet stationary on the ground through most of the routine thus reducing the risk of hurting yourself.
The downfall to low impact aerobics is that it is not as intense as high impact aerobics and does not increase your heart rate significantly. High impact aerobics is completely different than low impact aerobics. Here the feet are never in one place on the ground. High impact aerobics is more aggressive and it increases the heart rate significantly.
With high impact aerobics you have to be careful though not to injure your body. You could injure yourself by the constant movement of your feet bouncing and hitting the ground.
It is important that when you perform any type of aerobic activity that you wear the proper shoes to support your feet and absorbs the shock of your feet hitting the ground.
The best types of aerobics activities are the kinds that combine both low impact and high impact exercises. The low impact will help warm your body up while the high impact will increase your heart rate.
