What Makes a Good Whey Protein Powder
There are numerous whey protein powders on the market and it is easy to get confused about what to buy and what to look out for. So here are a few things that you should check before buying a whey protein powder and here are a few handy tips to help you.
Check for Purity
In the market today there are a lot of different makes of whey protein and they all contain different ingredients. They are also filtered in different ways, which they use to promote purity.
Included in these are whey protein concentrates, hydrolysates and isolates. There are even more subcategories within these categories as well.
But let’s not worry about the fancy and technical side of buying a whey protein powder; let’s just look at the nutritional label for the facts.
The Label
How many grams of fat are in it? You need to know the number of grams of fat in every 25 grams of protein; this will tell you the purity. You need to be looking for products that have 2 or less grams of fat in every 25 gram of protein.
Next, look at the carbohydrates and in particular the sugars. You need to be around the 3 grams or less mark.
What About the Taste?
At first you might not think that the taste is very important but if you get a high purity whey protein powder then you will realise that they taste a lot better.
There are lots of flavours out there on the market and you just need to find one that suits you.
What about the price?
Just as with the flavours, there is a wide variety of powders costing a range of prices from cheap to quite expensive. Why not try something from the middle of the price range?
You may decide to sacrifice the taste to get a very pure powder or you may decide that you will get a tasty cheaper one so that you can enjoy what you are drinking. The choice is entirely yours and you need to make that based on what you want to get out of the product.
