Weight Training at Home
March 19, 2009
Now that you know all about the wonderful physical and mental benefits of taking part in a weight training program, you must be very excited about getting started. The question is though, “how and where do I begin?” There is a good deal of information out there to help you get started in designing a weight training program for you to follow in your home. This information will also tell you what types of equipment you will need to buy for your home gym.
You may think that when you embark on a weight training program, all you have to do is pick up some weights and start lifting. But there is more to a weight training program than just that. You need to consider what your current fitness level is and to what level you want to take your body. Most people who train at home are new to weight training and do not necessarily know what it entails.
When you decide to start a weight training program at home you are faced with a lot of options as to which types of equipment you need to buy to optimize your workout. You may need to start off small and buy an affordable piece of equipment first. See if this equipment does the trick before investing in more expensive equipment.
Start your collection of equipments with some basic pieces such as hand held free weights or strength bands. Both of these types of equipments are affordable and easy to find at any sporting goods store. As you get stronger you can buy heavier weights or bands with more resistance. When choosing your first set of weights or bands, find ones that are easy enough to handle but that will have an impact if you do several repetitions. As the repetitions get easier, it’s time to upgrade your weights.
Body building will work each of your muscle groups if done properly. Work each muscle group individually. A good workout routine starts with your upper body which includes your arms, shoulders, back, and chest. Next, move to your lower body which involves your legs, glutes and calves. Finish your routine with abdominal exercises.
You need to put equal effort into working each muscle group. For exercise ideas, refer to fitness books and magazines. You don’t have to follow the exact routine that they show. Instead you can incorporate different routines to make up your complete programs. Just make sure that you work each of the muscle groups. Work out until you feel the burn.
