Weight loss Guidelines

April 9, 2009

weightlossguidelinesWhile holidays is that time of year when all of us could learn a little restraint and still be able to enjoy them, we find ourselves wanting to lose weight or at least, keeping the pounds off.

It is not as difficult as you may think. You can lose your weight with these guidelines.

1.    After you eat, your stomach should be half full.

Many people have a tendency to either neglect or consume a vast amount of water that results in a “water diet.”

This new diet does not substitute for the necessary nutrients and may become harmful in the latter parts of the diet.

For every two parts of food consumed, you should drink one part water leaving your stomach at least one quarter empty for movement of air.

2. When eating at a restaurant or party, eat half a portion, maximum, and wait for five or ten minutes.

Restaurant portions are commonly two or three meals on a single or double plate. This is more than enough to consume at a single sitting that you may find out—once you pause and sip your drink—you are already full.

3. Always eat something for breakfast

Never skip breakfast as this will cause over eating which is not good for weight loss.

4. Eat slowly and thoroughly chew your food.

Often, smaller foods have a better chance of being digested quicker than large chunks.

5. Make sure your last meal or snack of the day is small and nutritionally dense.

Nutritionally dense snacks help to replenish the body’s nutritional thirst while giving that necessary boost of last minute energy. Nutritious food is not an excuse for over indulgence.

Even when you eat all the right things, the volume consumed should be in moderation as it will take a lot of exercise to make up for overeating anything.

Although weight loss during and after the holidays may be a challenge, try to consider your meals a meditation by focusing on what you eat and where you eat it, particularly those holiday sweets generously shared at work.

Pause every few minutes, think about the amount you have eaten, be thankful for your life and breathe. The joys of the holidays are not to be neglected but neither is eating healthy.
