Weighing Yourself Often
April 29, 2009
The first thing you must do when you want to lose or gain weight is to weigh yourself. There are a lot of people who want to lose weight but they cannot tell how much they weigh.
Why people don’t weigh themselves
There could be various reasons for that. It could be that such people are fully aware that they are too heavy but might be afraid to admit the realities. It could also be that they are afraid of dieting and exercise. Some might be feeling guilty about their weight. But refusing to admit the realities of your condition does not change it. It will rather make it worse.
Benefits of weighing
Frequently stepping on the scales gives an excellent feedback that motivates you. It has been proven that those who weigh themselves regularly from, once a day to once a week lose weight faster than others do.
A survey revealed that about 75% of those who weigh themselves regularly are able to lose an average of 30 pounds a year. Regular weighing will serve as a warning; thus new strategies are adopted to fight the problem.
Everyone can do it
It is not only those who have weight problems who have to weigh themselves regularly. It helps to find out how dehydrated you are after exercise. When you weigh yourself before and after exercise, you get to know the rate at which you lose fluids.
Be consistent
Weight varies amazingly during the day. It is therefore necessary that you weigh yourself at the same time of the day if you adopt for daily weighing. It is suggested that it should be in the morning before eating or exercise. You have to keep record of each day’s weight so that you can track the progress you are making.
Weight loss takes time
It is very possible to lose body fat without immediately seeing the result when you weigh yourself. But overweight people cannot lose significant weight that does not reflect on the scale. It takes constant efforts to see the expected results.
It may take between one to two weeks to notice any change. Anything faster means that you are losing more weight than necessary for your health.
Seek advice if after about three or four weeks you don’t see any results.
