Uses of Marshmallows

Since ancient times, Marshmallow plants have been used for medicinal purposes. Usually grown in damp and wet areas, marshmallow is a plant which is associated with manifold uses as the roots and leaves of this plant can be used to cure various ailments and diseases. It is usually used for the treatment of cough, cold and skin related disorders. However, there are various other uses and benefits of marshmallows which are listed below.

Marshmallow acts as a soothing anti-inflammatory agent and is thus used for the treatment of irritated respiratory, digestive and urinary systems. It can also be used to treat inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. An effective paste for skin disorders can be made by mixing powdered marshmallow root with warm water. This paste should be simply applied to the irritated and affected skin with the help of a soft and a clean cloth to attain the desired result. It can also be used to speed up the healing process of wounds and cuts or bruises. In addition, marshmallows can also be used effectively as an antidote to poison and can be used to treat ailments like ulcers, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, constipation, kidney stone, muscular pain and other minor as well a major problems.

Along with medicinal properties, marshmallows can also be used to thicken and stabilize food items along with providing flavor to beverages and foods. While there are no reported allergic reactions to the use of marshmallows, allergies might occur with this plants use. Moreover, pregnant women or breastfeeding women should avoid the use of marshmallows to be on a safer side. Marshmallows are also known to lower blood sugar levels and thus people should initially use caution before making optimum use of marshmallows and its various health benefits.
