Tummy Exercise Myths
January 9, 2009
Everybody dreams of a well-sculpted body and with these days of increased attention to fitness and a great body, more and more people are turning towards making their body look leaner and better than ever before. However, with the increased awareness for a better-looking body, several myths have also come up regarding exercises.
One of the most common areas of exercise myths is the ab exercises. You have no shortage of myths around tummy exercises. The sad thing about this is that people believe in these myths, spend a lot of time and energy without any actual gain, and therefore, end up in confusion and frustration.
The reason behind so many myths around the tummy exercises is that this area is the most prone to gain and show fat. This occurs because our normal everyday work does not do any good to our tummy. Therefore, it collects all the fat deposits and one fine day, you discover that you have a beer belly.
You will need to go out of your way to challenge the abdominal muscles and lose any fat that has gathered there. One more reason is after birth, the tummy muscles become loose and tend to lose all strength. This makes them stay as they are instead of going back to their normal position. This will make your tummy look bigger than it actually is.
Here are some common myths that are prevalent among people and that keep them from exercising right and gaining the most out of their exercises.
Focussing on mid-section exercises alone will make my tummy go in
The fact is that if you concentrate on your ab muscles alone, it is not going to do you any good. The key is to decrease fat from your body. This will reduce the fat from your abs as well and reveal them from underneath. Therefore, focus on losing fat from your body and not from one area alone because that will never work.
Flatten your tummy with a lot of crunches
You should take care on this one because overdoing crunches will shorten your abs. This will cause your head to be pulled forward and spoil your posture. For reducing fat, you need a combination of cardio exercise and a balanced diet. The cardio will help to lose any unwanted fat and a balanced diet will keep you from gaining any excess fat.
If I exercise more, I do not have to worry about eating right
This is the worst thing you can believe in. If you do not care about what is going in your body, you will surely see the results sooner or later, you do not need to starve yourself or go overboard with food if you are exercising. A combination of the two will give you the figure of your dreams.
Go easy on your tummy
There is no need to work your abs everyday. You can work them twice per week. You should avoid overdoing any ab exercises and only slowly move forward. You should try to remain physically active by doing some small chores yourself instead of relying on machines to do the job. You can choose stairs over elevators, pace while talking on the phone and simple things like these will keep you healthy and keep your tummy tucked.
