Trimming eyebrows with laser treatment
October 14, 2009
Unruly eyebrows are a major issue for many women, and they require constant attention and care. These eyebrows can be trimmed through laser treatments.
This treatment involves a certain amount of risk and requires consultations with the specialist doctor to determine if the laser removal can be done safely on the individual.
How does this treatment work? The laser focuses on the melatonin present in the hair. It generates heat that goes all the way to the hair follicle, causing inflammation of the follicle.
This inflammation forces it into a dormant state, which tends to last for a really long time. The FDA cites the laser method of hair removal as the only permanent method of reducing hair.
Laser treatment requires a lot of advance preparation by the individual. The laser hair removal method works better on people with a lighter skin color, because the laser works on the melatonin causing the hair loss.
A few weeks prior to the treatment, patients must avoid tanning of any form: i.e. tanning due to being outdoors, indoor tanning or any products used for tanning.
They also need to avoid waxing, threading or plucking their eyebrows for a minimum of three weeks before the treatment, as the hair should be visible yet short in order for the treatment to work.
Caring for the eyebrows extends to during and after the procedure, as well as in between the sessions. Because exposure to the sun is harmful, people undergoing laser treatments should avoid sunlight as much as possible. If going out into the sun is required, try to be outside when the sun is not at its peak.
The skin becomes very sensitive after the treatment, and even mild sunlight could cause severe sunburn. While washing your face, take care not to rub too much or use any scrubs.
Mild soaps or creams are better and, till your skin heals, use only mild products, as any harsh chemicals can cause further inflammation of the area. The twenty-four hours immediately after the procedure are very important, and you should ensure that you don’t sweat. Perspiration causes irritation and tremendous pain.
Choosing the right clinic is very important. Dozens of clinics perform the laser method of hair removal, but they may not all be good. Check with friends and relatives, try to get referrals, and do extensive research before opting for this procedure.
