Tips for Preventing Holiday Weight Gain

As we all know, the holidays are the worst time for anyone as far as weight gain is concerned. It seems like the perfect opportunity to make an excuse to eat whatever we want whenever we want. You have two months to eat everything you lay your eyes on. The problem is that the foods you eat during the holidays will haunt you for years to come.

Believe it or not, there are ways to trim some of the fat and calories out of your holiday and not even miss it. To get you started, be sure to eat a great breakfast to get your day going. This will help you from eating everything in site for the rest of the day. Make sure you include some protein in that meal. If you are going to a party, you will want to eat a little something before you go. This will keep you from eating all that you can while you are there.

There is almost always alcohol wherever you go. Don’t drink with an empty stomach. Not only can it go straight to your head, but you may eat what you shouldn’t. When it is time to sit down and eat that turkey, go for the white meat. It is healthier and less calories.

To cut back on the calories while you are cooking, there are a few tips that you can follow. Don’t make your stuffing in the bird, strain your gravies and sauces, go for baked potato instead of yams, use light margarine in place of butter and use mustard instead of mayo on your sandwiches. These cooking tips will help to reduce the calories in all of your foods so that you can enjoy your meal without the guilt.

One last tip, don’t forget to exercise. Just because it is the holidays, it’s not an excuse to shrug off your daily exercise routine. If you find that you don’t have time to make it to the gym, try to get out for a 30 minute brisk walk around the neighborhood to keep you motivated and on track.
