Recent research has heavily contradicted controversy about Tilapia. Result has justified about the advantages of Tilapia eating and its harmless effect on heart. Tilapia is one of the popular delicious seafood. It has been found to be essential in the bodybuilding diet. Tilapia is very rich in protein and quite low in fat. However, there are some misconceptions evoked by the media regarding its nutrition. It has been claimed that this delicious seafood tilapia consumption may cause heart attack.
But other researchers say that it is a misleading fact. The claim was made public because of the information declared by some researchers of Wake Forest University that farm-raised tilapia has an critical ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids. Even though the omega fatty acids are essential for a healthy diet, the consumption ratio should be 1:1 or less. The researchers warned that farm- raised tilapia has the fatty acids ratio of 2:1 and 3:1 and so not suitable for consumption, therefore, should not be eaten.
But the researchers lacked the most valuable information that fat from tilapia is very low. The USDA declared that the fishes have been found to have 2 grams of total fat per 3.5 oz, which was the quantity present in the fish used in the Wake Forest research. Experts analyzed that almost 3.5 oz of tilapia fish may contain an unhealthy omega fatty acid ratio but it supplies about 600-900 mg of omega-6 fatty acids only, which is harmless. . Even if you consume 7 oz. piece of tilapia you will be supplied with 1200-1800 mg of omega-6 g fatty acids, which is hardly critical in its impact on the heart or the body.
So, it is wiser is to pay no attention to the unnecessary propaganda and coolly enjoy tilapia as low fat and a rich source of protein containing seafood.
