Consult Your Doctor
If you are thinking about starting an exercise routine, the first thing you should do is to consult your physician. You must be able to talk about whatever health problems you are facing in an honest and open manner. This is especially important for those who have not been very active in the past.
Based on what health problems you have and your statistics such as blood pressure, pulse, and stress your doctor will tell you how much exercise a week you should commit to and what sort of activities will most benefit you.
Once you are armed with this information, you can then devise an exercise routine. Begin with a routine that is low in intensity and then gradually increase the intensity, as you get stronger. Make sure to check with your doctor once you have devised a plan so that you know if it suits you or not.
An exercise such as walking is great for anybody because it can be done in a variety of different ways to suit each person’s needs and strengths. One can walk longer or up an incline for added intensity.
Physicians generally emphasize the importance of a cardio workout and often recommend an activity like aerobics. You can be sure that your doctor will advise you to start any routine slowly.
If you are someone who has problems with their feet or joints, the doctor will probably recommend swimming and rowing, where the stress is on the upper body.
A warm up and cool down are always an important part of any workout as it helps to stretch the muscles and strengthen the joints in the long run. It also helps prevent injury during working out.
One can get easily bored and lazy when it comes to exercising. Therefore, it is always a great idea to partner up with someone to keep you motivated and on track.
If you can’t get a friend or family member to exercise with you, then you can always join a class. However, if you are going to join a class, then make sure it is one, which suits your needs.
You also have to change your lifestyle so that it incorporates a lot of activity. For example, take the stairs instead of an elevator. A life filled with physical activity will ensure better health and fitness.
