The yoga diet wholesome and vegetarian

The six systems of Indian philosophy also include yoga. Like most of the philosophies and culture, yoga has also been passed on orally through generations. Yoga is the union of the personal self and the spiritual self. Food is given a lot of importance in yogic literature. Eating the correct type of food is very important as it leads to physical, emotional and mental balance. Food which is beneficial for us is called sattvic or pure, in the yogic literature, While the food which disturbs our physical emotional and mental balance is characterized as tamasic-stale or rotten, and rajasic-stimulating. To achieve the best health, here are some tips which you can adapt.

Choosing sattvic food: - Sattvic food is considered to be the best form of food as it is nourishing and easy to digest. These foods generate fresh energy and a calm peaceful mind which helps us to use all the mental, spiritual and physical powers. Cereals, fruit juice, milk butter, beans, honey, pure water, vegetables and fresh fruits, are some of the sattvic products.

The yogic diet is purely vegetarian and has nothing to do with animals, expect for the milk products and eggs. This is because it is good for the health and easy to digest, while meat proteins takes a lot of time to digest and it’s hard for the liver and kidneys to remove them. One can easily switch to a vegetarian diet if there are tasty alternatives. One needs not to do it a sudden. Starting off by cutting on the red meat and gradually deleting it from the diet is a better option.

Eat fresh fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Cooking of the vegetables destroys vitamins and enzymes, so it is better to eat some fresh vegetables in a day. It’s a must to include whole grain products in the diet.

At least 8 to 10 glasses of water is necessary to drink. Liquid intake can also be fulfilled by drinking fresh fruit juices, milk, vegetable juice, coconut milk, etc. liquid intake can also be increased by eating water rich fresh fruits and vegetables. Chew the food properly before swallowing it. It’s easy to digest well chewed food.

Tips to avoid tamasic and rajasic foods: – Stale, unripe and over ripe foods are tamasic. They weaken the body and dull the intellect. Meat, fish, mushrooms, and those foods which have been frozen, canned or preserved foods are tamasic. Drugs, alcohol, and Feeding too much are also tamasic.

Strong spices and food which are acidic, sour or bitter are all rajasic. The foods which excite the mind and make it difficult to control are also rajasic. Eating too many combinations of food and eating fast is also rajasic.

The rules of yogic food are not easy to follow by everyone but if we include some rules then too we can enhance our well being.
