yogaamericaYoga is fast becoming popular in America. It is associated with many benefits, including stress relief.  In today’s modern world everyone seems to be in a rush for no particular reason and do not seem to understand the need for peace of mind.

Many believe that yoga is the best way to bring about mental peace and harmony. The benefits of yoga are numerous and include stress and tension reduction, improved physical balance, strength and flexibility, and a lowering of blood pressure and cortical levels.

Yoga leads to better emotional wellbeing through breathing techniques that correlate the mind, spirit and body. Many Americans now follow the principles of yoga.

Yoga is a theme and act of discipline that originated in India.  It combines mental and physical workouts.  Regular yoga practice helps manage stress, stimulate sleep, and allows the individual to embrace the art of living for the present and avoid a focus on issues that are beyond their own control.

Breathing habits

Quite a lot of evidence indicates that practicing yoga is akin to performing other physical activities such as swimming, and is just as effective in the reduction of anger, depression, stress and fatigue.

Recent research indicates that interventions focusing on mind-body relationships are a great alternative to prescription drugs.  The goal of yoga is to synchronize breathing and movement, inhaling and exhaling as the individual moves through the poses.

It is believed that breathing through the nose keeps heat in the body and the mind focused.  The focus on breathing is a great way to manage anxiety.

Different styles

Hatha yoga is one of the most popular styles today because it is easy to practice and smooth.  If beginning yoga, one should start with Hatha yoga. Vinyasa is a highly athletic form of yoga, while Iyengar yoga focuses on proper body alignment. On the other hand, Bikram yoga is not recommended for beginners. There are quite a few yoga training centers in the USA. Yoga is good for both the body and the mind.  Relax your body and mind by practicing yoga every morning.
