The truth about Low-Carb Beers
The new and ever-popular, growing fad in alcoholic beverages right now is beers that claim to be “low-carb”. There are low-carb variations now of beer, coolers, and mixed drinks. There is even such a drink as a “Skinny White Russian”. Don’t be fooled, though, because it may be no different as far as your diet is concerned for you to drink a low-carb beer than it is for you to drink a full-flavored beer.
Dieticians say that low-carb beers are no better than regular, full-flavored beer. In fact, the “healthiness” of a beer is not dependent on the amount of carbs. What matters as far as diet is concerned when it comes to beer is the number of kilojoules a beer has. As a general rule, in fact, most beers are low carb anyway. But it is an unimportant factor if you truly are watching your diet or even trying to lose weight. Number of calories is what you should be concerned about when it comes to beer, not how many carbohydrates it has.
It is also deceptive in that many times a “light” or “low-carb” beer a lot of times has just as many calories and carbs as its full-bodied counterparts. So it makes you ask yourself, what was the point of caring about it anyway?
So what is a good suggestion when it comes to this diet fad? If you are watching your weight and you love beer, drink beer. Just drink it in moderation. And, as always, limit what you eat and of course EXERCISE. A sedentary lifestyle and an over-in-take of calories is what mainly contribute to being overweight.
Is the low carb beer just a marketing scheme? Yes, probably. Not every diet fad has always been what it seems, this is just one of them.
