The Key to the Macrobiotic Diet

George Ohsawa was able to draw upon his own battles with poor health and create a diet that was going to change peoples lives. The diet is called the Macrobiotic diet, it is a Diet that is that is high is a high fiber and low fat diet.

The Macrobiotic diet is an excellent choice for anyone who is suffering from a chronic disease such as cancer. Women who have a family history of breast cancer that are on the Macrobiotic diet developed fewer cancerous cells than women with the same genetic background who weren’t on the Macrobiotic diet.

Eat Your Veggies

The Macrobiotic diet consists mainly of vegetable, 25-30 percent of what you eat every day will be vegetables. The vegetables are the most effective when they are eaten raw. When you go grocery shopping you should also remember that the longer the vegetables are stored the more they loose some of their nutritional value. When you are on the Macrobiotic diet you should try to eat most of the vegetables in their raw state.

When you are cooking, don’t use butter, you should only use unrefined vegetable oil.

Although the Macrobiotic diet involves large amounts of vegetables, you don’t have to give up your meat and dairy products. The key to the Macrobiotic diet is to eat your animal products in small amounts. The consumption of seafood is encouraged.

Get Plenty of Soup

Soup is a big part of the Macrobiotic diet. In order for the diet to work properly you should eat 1-2 cups of soup every single day. Try to select a soup that is vegetable based and noodle free. Avoid adding crackers to your soup.

Avoid Pasta

Keep your consumption of pasta and wheat products to a minimum. When on the Macrobiotic diet you should only eat wheat products once a week.

Lots of Beans

The Macrobiotic diet requires that you fall in love with legumes, they are going to make up a minimum of 10% of your daily diet. You can eat a wide variety of beans and they can either be cooked or in bean product, such as tofu.

Fruits you Should Eat

Fruits that Macrobiotic diet friendly are apples, peaches, blueberries, and cherries. Avoid papayas, mangoes, and pineapple.
