The Importance of Proper Form

Improper form is one the common mistakes that people make when they go to the gym. This hinders getting the expected result and creates the opportunity for major injuries especially back injuries. Injuries involving the back are really difficult to manage because they take months to heal and if care is not taken, they could lead to permanent conditions. We want to discuss a few reasons why proper form is important.

Makes you avoid injuries
This is the most important reason for maintaining proper form. Those who lift a lot of weight will find their bodies a bit misaligned. This places joints, muscles, and tendons very awkward positions making strains and tears easy to get. It is better to slow down in order to keep proper form.

Targeting the Correct muscle
Many weight lifting exercises are directed towards certain specific groups of muscles. If you are not in the correct form, you will be working different muscles all together. Another thing is to strain the targeted muscles.

Maintenance of proper breathing
It is very important to maintain proper breathing when doing resistance training. It helps generate more force and also reduces the risk of developing heart problems and harmful raises in high pressure. Correct form makes breathing in and out easier so that you can focus on what you are doing.

More effective lifting of weight
Your muscles must be in the right position to be able to generate the necessary force for you to lift the maximum weight possible. Getting out of alignment places your muscles in unnatural positions making them less effective. Proper form will make you able to lift heavier weight giving you more visible results.

Unnecessary stabilizing actions are reduced.
Using improperly will make a group of muscles, especially those in the core, work over time in order to stabilise your body and also to prevent injuries. You waste a lot of energy when doing all these stabilising actions. This will reduce the effectiveness of your exercise significantly. What it means is that you do more work for little result. This is not an ideal situation.

It is therefore good to use proper form during your workouts.
