The depression relief diet
The expression “comfort food” can refer to many different things. But the one thing that comfort food seems to be the best for is depression. The time of day that you eat and the types of foods that you eat also have a lot to do with depression.
Two things that can give you a quick lift and fast boost are sugar and caffeine. The only problem with this is that when the effects wear off you will find yourself crashing. By cutting back on your use of these products, you will find that you don’t need them as much as you thought.
You also want to make sure that you have plenty of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. These acids actually help your nervous system and can help reduce the possibility of depression. Vitamins are also an important part of your diet. If you have a vitamin deficiency it can trigger depression also. It is important to take a multivitamin and a mineral supplement each and every day. This will help to cut back on the feelings of depression also.
On the depression relief diet, you want to make sure that you take the vitamins every day. Exercise everyday is also an essential part of the diet. Drink plenty of fluids such as water and herbal tea. Adding more fish to your diet so that you have plenty of omega-3 fatty acids for your nervous system is also very important.
Things that you want to leave out of your daily diet are caffeine and alcohol. You also want to try and eliminate simple things such as sugar and carbohydrates. Even though these things make you feel better for a little while, once the high wears off you will crash and burn and feel worse than when you consumed them.
Adding two or three snacks a day to your daily diet can also help to give you an all-day boost as well. These would include nuts, dried fruit, banana, apple slices, whole grain crackers with butter or a delicious soya milk smoothie. Yum.
