The Calories
The secret of weight loss lies in the fact that eat fewer calories than you burn. As soon as you break the rule all the fat- avoiding and low glycemic-index eating is of no use and unsuccessful. This is why the health experts are now suggesting and emphasizing a fundamental approach of calorie counting. The maneuver is to make smarter choices about the foods as well as portion sizes you consume and how much you burn. Scientifically, a calorie is the amount of potential energy in food. Theoretically, 1calorie is the amount of energy required to elevate the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius. In nutrition, it is measured in kcal, or kilocalorie. One Kcal is equal to 1,000 calories.
The enzymes in the digestive juices break down the chemical bonding in food molecules thus, digestive system releases the energy contained in those bonds. The energy in the body is required for all the basic activities like breathing, working, thinking, growing, carrying a pregnancy, running, walking etc. But when we do not use the calories we have eaten, the remaining calories get transported to liver and stored as glycogen stores. Glycogen is the energy reserve, which can be immediately used upon requirement. The storage ensures that you need not to eat constantly to keep your body active and strengthened. But yet the energy is depleted every three to four hours. The glycogen in the liver is also passed on to muscles for short term storage and utilized during exercising or work out and to move the body. So, the crux is that if you need to loose weight you have to equalize the input to output. The disproportionate ratio causes weight gain, so start working out to maintain weight, as the input in general is more than the output.
