The Benefits of the Lychee Fruit

March 24, 2009

The lychee is a fruit with an unusual name. The lychee is a sweet tasting, juicy fruit that is a member of the soapberry family. The lychee fruit is a native of Asia, but it can also be found in several Florida fruit farms; you’ll recognize the fruit trees, they are large evergreens that are heavily draped with the bright pink fruit. When you are eating a lychee fruit, you might notice that it tastes a little bit like a grape.

Vitamin C
The lychee fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C. Eating one lychee will give you approximately 40% more vitamin C than eating an orange.

Increase Your Energy
If you are looking for a quick burst of energy, you should definitely consider eating a lychee fruit. In addition to providing you with the energy you need, the lychee fruit will also benefit your body in other ways at the same time.

Digestive Fibers
In addition to being packed full of digestive fiber that helps your body process food, cleans your colon, and cures your constipation, the lychee fruit also acts as a diuretic. Eating the lychee several times a week will help prevent you from suffering through the pain of kidney stones.

The Importance of Fatty Acids
Did you know that eating a lychee fruit will actually help you process the other foods you eat? Each lychee fruit is full of fatty acids that allow your body to process fat soluble vitamins like beta carotene.

Hydrate Yourself
When you bite into a lychee fruit, one of the first things you’ll notice is the explosion of juice that fills your mouth. What you might not realize is that all that juice is actually nutrient packed liquid that will provide your body with much needed moisture that will help prevent you from getting dehydrated.

Prevent a Heart Attack
People who eat lychee fruit several times a week are 50% less likely to have a heart attack than people who don’t eat lychee fruit. In addition to lowering the odds of you suffering a fatal heart attack, regular consumption of lychee fruit will prevent blood clots and maintain healthy cells.

Selecting the Perfect Lychee
If you have never eaten a lychee fruit, it can be difficult to know which lychee fruit is a good one. You want to select a fruit that is a very bright shade of pink. When you put pressure on the fruit, it should feel firm, but not hard.
