The basic principles of the Zone Diet

zonedietThe principle of the Zone Diet is based on metabolism.  It is based on the meat-based diet patterns that were followed by our ancestors nearly 100,000 years ago.

Famous celebrities like Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, and Demi Moore have had promising results from following the principles of the Zone Diet, developed by Barry Sears. The Zone Diet is based on a proportion of 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, and 30% fats, and is commonly known as the 40-30-30 plan.

The change in the food pattern

Due to advancing technology in the food industry we tend to consume more carbohydrates in our every day diet. This affects the metabolism ability to burn fats.

Higher consumption of grain and starch foods like rice, bread crumbs, pasta, potatoes, and fast foods leads to weight gain. The Zone Diet insists that the individual focus on the diet pattern of early man, which was balanced between meat, fruit, and vegetables.

The ideal ratio

The Zone Diet recommends the ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fats to control the levels of insulin in the blood stream. Excess insulin may lead to the storage of fat in the body and can cause problems like obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Maintaining proper metabolic function is completely possible with the Zone Diet.

The carbs

Avoid carbs from grains, pastas, and starches.  Instead consume carbs from fruits and vegetables.  Monounsaturated fats can be obtained from olive oil, almonds, and avocados. The Zone Diet considers food to be essential to overall health, weight loss and the prevention of heart disease and diabetes.

Pros and Cons of the Zone Diet

One sector of experts argues for the principles of the Zone Diet while others believe that it consists of a flawless ratio.

AHA indicates that the Zone Diet is not a long term weight loss program and restricts the consumption of essential vitamins and minerals. The higher than normal proportion of proteins will not balance the health of the body.  While some have had remarkable results while practicing the Zone Diet, is has not been clinically proven.
