Stretching for fitness

January 19, 2009

The perfect fitness training is that which includes exercises for creating muscular strength and improved cardiovascular efficiency. Stretching exercises are the ones that make the joints flexible, especially the joints of the vertebral column and its different parts.

Whether stretching exercises are performed individually or included in any fitness training routine, it serves to be very beneficial and the improvement can be felt during the training itself. The benefits of stretching exercises can be known only after understanding how it nourishes the various tissues of the body.

What happens after we stretch?

Through exercises, the muscles receive their nutrients directly from the vascular system, but there is no such way or system from where the cartilage tissues that cover the ends of the bones in joints can get their nutrients from. These cartilages are however fed by the incoming particles that come from the joint fluids that surround it. These fluids are known as the synovial. To be competent to occupy the synovial agent in the best way, the cartilage has assistance to an alteration of pressure and the suction forces.

It is incisively this regularized rhythmic exchange that optimizes the supply for the cartilage which is won with stretching exercises. Performing stretching exercises on a regular basis helps in improving the cartilage nutrition. It also helps in loosening the connective tissues. While doing the stretching exercises, both outer and innermost attention is indispensable.

Follow these stretching tips when performing stretching exercises:

•    Remember to warm up before stretching. This will deliver plenty of nutrient rich blood to those areas which are about to be exercised and it also lubricates the joints and warms up the muscles.
•    Never bounce as it will injure you and of course it is not effective either.

•    Try and hold each stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. It is very effective.
