There are a number of strength training programs available today but as a beginner, you should first acquaint yourself with the basics and foundation of an effective strength training routine to reap maximum benefit without any injury. Strength training programs are weight training programs designed to prioritize strength rather than muscle size or muscle endurance. The exercises involved in such a training session are meant for those people who want to develop strength for functional purposes, personal development, weightlifting or for sports. There are a number of benefits of strength training as it helps in fastening the metabolism rate which in turn helps in achieving a slim figure. Moreover, it helps in increasing the bone density which helps in preventing one from disease like osteoporosis and arthritis along with aiding in the overall boosting of energy levels.

While selecting exercises for one’s strength routine, one should ensure that one selects at least one exercise for each major muscle group to prevent muscle imbalances and injuries. Thus one should select exercises which target the major muscle groups like gluteals, hamstrings, calf, low back, hip abductors, abdominals and biceps amongst others. While performing a series of exercises, one should move from larger muscle groups and compound movements to smaller muscle groups and isolation movements. This helps in preserving and utilizing the maximum energy for most demanding moves. The speed of the movements also play an important part in strength training exercises and one should ensure to avoid fast and jerky movements which can lead to injuries and imbalance of the body. It has been found that a reasonable pace of strength training is one to two seconds for the lifting portion of the exercise and three to four seconds for the lowering portion of the move. Progression and frequency are the keys to any well designed strength program. This implies gradual increasing of the level and repetition of the exercises to reap maximum benefits. One should remember that increase in muscle sis and strength dies not occur while one is training. This process occurs in the rest periods between workouts when the muscles recover and rebuild. By understanding the basics of strength training programs, one can participate in them to enhance one’s overall strength and health.
