Sports Injuries and How to Prevent Them
Injuries are like second nature if you are into playing sports, especially on a regular basis. With a good education on injuries that can occur in sports you may be able to prevent certain mishaps from happening. A little protection may go a long way to.
We all know that football is one of the toughest contact sports that you can play. Unfortunately, concussions and ankle injuries seem to come with the game.
One too many concussions can be fatal. By wearing a helmet and using a mouthpiece it can reduce the chances of a concussion greatly. When you get hit a second time before the fist concussion has had a chance to heal it is called second impact syndrome. This can lead to death if not treated immediately. If you start to experience headaches, dizziness, nausea and even possible memory loss after a concussion, be sure to check with your doctor.
Ankle injuries such as sprains are come from all of the running that football players do during the game. It is easy to twist your ankle running while trying to score that winning touchdown. If you hear something snap, be sure to see your doctor right away to make sure that nothing is actually broken. The best way to heal an ankle sprain is to keep your foot propped up while using ice and to exercise the injured ankle.
Hockey can be a rough contact sport as well. The common side effects of playing hockey are loss of teeth, concussions and the occasional cut. There are more severe injuries such as collateral knee injuries. Knee braces can help prevent these from happening. It is caused when your knee is hit from the side. The brace is the closest you can come to trying to prevent them.
No matter which sport you have chosen to participate in, whether it is one or many, safety comes first with protection and a little common sense. Always wear protective gear that is made for the sport you are playing so that fun can be your main concern. Besides winning of course!
