Simple Weight Loss Tips
Many people want to know how they can control their weight. Some may simply want to drop a few pounds while others may suffer an actual weight crisis. For all these individuals, they must eventually make some choices.
The first step toward achieving and maintaining a healthy weight resides in the everyday choices we make. Here are a few suggestions on how to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
Check how you feel.
How you generally feel about your weight is an indication of how healthy your weight is. If you are energetic and feel happy, if you are able to move through the day without thinking you are too heavy, you do not have a weight problem. You may only need to fine tune yourself and maintain your weight as much as possible. You may need to incorporate some fitness activities like walking to your daily routine. You may also have to switch to low fat foods.
Check your BMI.
If you don’t feel as described above, you may have to check your body mass index (BMI). This is a guideline that indicates whether you are overweight or not. If your BMI is more than 27, you are overweight. The higher the BMI is over the normal range, the higher the degree of obesity.
Those who have a higher percentage of body fat are most likely to have a higher BMI. Exceptions to this rule include those individuals expected to have more muscle weight, such as body builders. Muscle is heavier than fat.
Excess body fat increases the risk of developing diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and strokes.
How you can calculate the BMI.
Take your weight in pounds and divide the value by your height in inches. Multiply the result by 703. The end result is your BMI.
Make the right choices.
What you need to do is to make smart choices. Opt for low-fat foods such as whole grains and low-fat milk and dairy products. Make sure the amount of calories you eat is not more than the amount you burn daily. If you eat large amounts of low-fat foods, you will still increase your fat levels.
