They adopt exercise programs, get memberships into state of the art gyms and even go on diets. They often assume that fancy and fad diets are the means to achieve weight loss and get back in shape.

More often than not, what works for one person may not work for another. There is no universal formula to help everyone get back in shape at the same rate and pace. However, here are a few basic tips that can be attempted by everyone to get back in shape. This is common for all body types and almost everyone can benefit from these basic tips.

The first step is to make lifestyle changes. Often it is found that bad lifestyle choices lead to weight gain. Habits such as over eating and lack of exercise are the chief culprits.

Not getting sufficient sleep is also regarded as a cause for weight gain. The key is to make these changes slowly and steadily. This way it will be more lasting. These acquired habits can be beneficial in the long run.

Track what you eat. Very often overeating results in weight gain. People normally consumed more calories that what they can burn. This results in weight gain. Count the calories that you consume. On an average 1500 and 2000 calories is what adult women and men will require respectively.

It makes sense to divide your consumption into 6 small meals in a day instead of 3 large meals. This will keep the metabolic activity in top gear and burn more calories.

3 large meals often result in consumption of more calories with each meal. Smaller meals and controlled portion sizes help limit the caloric intake.

Exercise is the main mantra for those who want to get back in shape.30 minutes of exercise per day for 4 days a week on a consistent basis will surely help achieve the results. A moderate exercise regimen is best suggested for most body types to get back in shape.
