Signs And Symptoms Of Acute Glaucoma

Symptoms Of Acute Glaucoma

Symptoms Of Acute Glaucoma Glaucoma is a collection of different problems related to the malfunctioning of the optic nerve in the eye. The optic nerve is very important for proper eyesight. There are two common types of glaucoma: open-angle glaucoma and acute glaucoma.

Open-angle glaucoma is a problem that advances so gradually that it goes unnoticed in many cases till it is already too late. Acute glaucoma on the other hand is a very fast progressing disease and goes from being mild to severe in a matter of just a few days.

Both the above mentioned problems occur when the pressure of circulation of optical fluid is altered. Glaucoma is an untreatable disease. But this does not mean that there can be no improvement in the condition.

When medical advice is sought in time, the patient can live a fruitful life with proper medication. Glaucoma is a very common disease and affects a large chunk of the worldwide population.

People with blood sugar problems are at a greater risk of developing this problem. Also the likelihood of a person having glaucoma increases with advancing age.
This disease is usually treated with special eye drops.

Surgery is also an option when the problem becomes too severe especially in the case of acute glaucoma. The problem with acute glaucoma is that the symptoms creep up on a person so suddenly that in many cases the patient is unable to get quick and proper treatment in time.

It could even result in permanent blindness. Therefore, it is important to know the signs and symptoms of acute glaucoma which are listed below.

6 Symptoms Of Acute Glaucoma

Blurry Eyesight

One of the first symptoms of glaucoma is that the person may start feeling that he/she cannot see clearly. There is a peculiar feeling as if a sticky film is covering the eyes and blocking clear vision.

Intolerance To Light

The eyes become highly sensitive to bright lights of any kind. This is especially true in the case of sunlight. There could be a tingling or painful sensation in the eyes when exposed to lights.

Haloed Vision

This is a very peculiar symptom of glaucoma. The patient may notice the presence of a halo on top of any light especially at night or in the dark. There is the appearance of a ring-like reflection on top of the actual light itself.

6 Signs Of Acute Glaucoma

Excessive Watering Of The Eyes

You may also feel that you are shedding tears for no reason. The change in the optical fluid pressure causes excessive secretion of the liquid into the eyes. There may be an abnormal amount of watering and lubrication in the eyes.

Change In Size

The change in fluid pressure can also increase or decrease the size of your eyes. And this does not happen to both eyes at once. There is usually a marked difference in terms of size of the eyes because one will be larger than the other.
